Smoky Hill to Buckley to Tollgate to Jewell to Leetsdale Transmission Project
Overview
As part of the Denver Metro Transmission Upgrades, we plan to upgrade the existing 230-kilovolt electric transmission line connecting several existing substations in Arapahoe County and Denver. The Project will also include upgrades to associated equipment.
The upgraded electric transmission line will be installed in the following existing southeast to northwest corridor:
- Approximately 5.6 miles between Smoky Hill Substation (South Gun Club Road) and Buckley Substation (South Tower Road and Sterling Hills Parkway) in Arapahoe County, Aurora and Centennial: select existing steel lattice towers will be replaced with new monopole steel structures
- Approximately 4.1 miles between Buckley Substation to Tollgate Substation (South Abilene Street and East Jewell Avenue) in Aurora: select existing steel lattice towers will be replaced with new monopole steel structures
- Approximately 2.7 miles from Tollgate Substation to Jewell Substation (near East Jewell Avenue and South Dayton Street) in Aurora: three existing steel lattice towers will be replaced with new monopole steel structures
- Approximately 3.3 miles from Jewell Substation in Aurora to Leetsdale Substation (South Jersey Street) in Denver: three existing steel lattice towers will be replaced with new monopole steel structures
The Smoky Hill to Buckley to Tollgate to Jewell to Leetsdale Transmission Project is part of a multi‑year effort to rebuild and upgrade vital, higher voltage transmission infrastructure across the Denver Metro area as part of the Denver Metro Transmission Upgrades.

Schedule
Work is expected to begin in April 2027, with project components in service by April 2030.
