Overview

We are constructing and operating an expansion at the existing Smoky Hill Substation on South Gun Club Road, north of Chenango Place in unincorporated Arapahoe County, Colorado.

Expansion at the Smoky Hill Substation includes:

  • Installing a new 345/230 kilovolt transformer.
  • Expanding the fenced area and replacing a portion of the substation fence.
  • Relocating, removing, replacing, and adding various substation equipment within the expanded fenceline.
  • Restringing transmission lines outside of the fenced area.

This project is part of the larger Xcel Energy Denver Metro Transmission Upgrades to upgrade the existing electric system to support new power generation sources and meet future electricity needs.
